Algonac’s Port O Call
This week we are visiting Port O Call in Algonac. Algonac is located north of Harsens Island, on the north side of the St Clair Rivers North Channel. Port O Call is easy to find. It is located right at the base of the water tower, in the Algonac Harbor Club Marina. It’s a fun summer destination, especially on those beautiful summer days when boaters are out in full force. While you don’t have to take a boat to get here . . . it is definitely part of the experience!
We happened to be out with friends, on their boat, a couple weeks back, and it was where we ended up, though not by chance. Port O call is owned by Kevin & Debbie Kosciolek. Debbie is the cousin of a friend, who happened to also be on the boat. Kevin and Debbie took over Port O Call in 2019 and are not strangers to the restaurant business, having owned Mr. B’s In Shelby Township since around 2012.
We happened to be there on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, and there was a boat show going on in the marina which added to the crowd and excitement. It was pretty cool. There were lots of classic wooden boats going back to the 1920’s and 30’s. The craftmanship was incredible!
When we docked the boat, we found our way to the restaurant. There is an outdoor Tiki Bar and tons of outdoor seating overlooking the marina. We ordered our dinks and sat there watching the crowd. From what we remember, it was a lot of fun.
They have a bunch of fun frozen signature drinks with their most popular being the Drunken Monkey. A blend of Kamora, Irish Cream, Coconut Rum, Cream De Banana and a banana all blended together into a delicious frozen treat. You can add a little chocolate and make it a Dirty Monkey. If you get a Drunken Monkey you can get a Port O Call T-shirt for $10. We had a few!
We opted to sit inside to eat.
We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share, even though they offer a full menu with everything from burgers to braised short ribs as well as flat breads and tacos.
There is something for everyone’s taste and everything we had was delicious.
They also have live music on the weekends. When we were there, The Look was setting up for their nightly gig. It would have been fun to stay and listen to them.
Port O Call is located at 1999 Pointe Tremble Rd in Algonac and is open Wed-Sunday at noon. They also offer Happy Hour Wed-Fri 3-6 PM featuring $5 Margaritas, $3 Drafts, $3 Domestic Bottles and $4 well drinks and $5 small plate appetizers.
Until next time . . . live well, eat well and enjoy life!
